Virtual Window for Navigation and Control

Virtual Window™ is a patent pending (GB 0505362.4) intuitive control system for navigating in virtual worlds, for character control in games, and for any human/computer interface.

Window To A Virtual World

Virtual Window can replace the mouse, the touchscreen, keyboard up/down keys, and other navigation devices.
Virtual Window™ requires small head movements to control the interface. The sensitivity can be varied so that smaller or larger head movements are required for any particular navigation function.

In detail, if you lean to the left, Virtual Window™ pans to the right. If you lean to the right, Virtual Window™ pans to the left. If you lean forward, Virtual Window™ zooms towards you. If you lean away, Virtual Window™ zooms away from you. At certain settings this gives the exact illusion of a window to the virtual world. At other settings Virtual Window™ becomes a suprisingly intuitive and controllable interface for on-screen navigation.

A Very Natural Navigation Interface

Virtual Window™, by measuring the operator's location and calculating their viewpoint, creates the illusion of the screen being a real window into the scene being displayed on the screen. This ingenious method can easily be extended to provide a very natural navigation process that can be used to tour 3D architectural buildings, virtual museums, 3D models, 3D landscapes, game environments, 3D virtual shopping areas, and many other applications.

For 2D displays of spreadsheets and other software, for still image manipulation and a host of other applications, Virtual Window™ provides a perfectly natural, easy to use interface.

Virtual Window™ For Difficult And Extreme Environments

Virtual Window™ is also a new interface to be used where hygiene or materials handling considerations make the use of normal interface technology such as the mouse, or touchscreens problematical in some way. One example would be the use of a computer by a surgeon during an operation where the surgeon controls the computer just by head movement alone.

Adding To The Immersive Games Experience

Virtual Window™ for use with computer games - the Virtual Window™ Games Controller (GC), in addition to providing the added immersive experience of the 'window into the game's world,' also allows an additional level of control in the games. Virtual Window™ GC relieves the pressure on joysticks and other control mechanisms, already overcrowded with buttons and switches.

Mobile Magic - Virtual Window™ Mobile Games Controller (MGC)

Virtual Window™ MGC is now available on the Nokia N70 phone and other Symbian 60 phones, where it can be used as the basis for a new genre of mobile fun and games, as a navigation tool for spreadsheets, images and any other document, and as a marvellously intuitive web navigation tool. Video conferencing with the mobile also becomes much easier when Virtual Window™ is loaded on the phone. Any phone equipped with a owner facing camera can use Virtual Window™.
